Man arrested following assault in taxi in Dorchester

Officers investigating an alleged assault in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The victim – a male taxi driver aged in his 40s – picked up a man from an address on Cambridge Road on Monday 25 December 2023. It is reported that at around 6.30pm the victim was assaulted inside the taxi before the suspect made off in the direction of Dorchester town centre.

The victim sustained minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

Following enquiries, a 21-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on police bail as the investigation continues.

Police Constable Mia-Isabella Bowditch, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at this time and has information about what happened to please come forward.

“Furthermore, I would ask any residents of the area to please review the recordings on their doorbell cameras or home CCTV systems to see if they have captured anything of relevance that can help us with our enquiries.”
