Man arrested for impersonating police officer in Poole

Officers investigating a reported suspicious incident in Poole are appealing for information and for a motorist involved to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report that at around 10.30pm on Saturday 20 May 2023 a third party witnessed a man in a white Vauxhall Combo van with blue flashing lights stop a motorist in the area of Springdale Road.

The man reportedly presented himself as a police officer or special constable before letting the vehicle carry on its journey.

A Poole man aged in his 50s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer. He has been released on police bail as further enquiries are conducted.

Investigations Officer Dean Smith, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am keen to trace the motorist who was reportedly stopped in the area of Springdale Road on the evening of Saturday 20 May 2023 so we can take their account of what happened.

“I would urge this driver or anyone else with information that might assist our enquiries to please come forward.”
