A man has been charged and is due to appear in court following a suspected drug deal where he reportedly became violent toward officers in Weymouth.

At around 6.30pm on Wednesday 7 July 2021 officers responded to a report of a suspected drug deal taking place on Rodwell Road and a man was subsequently detained for a search in Garibaldi Row.

The man reportedly became violent and was involved in a struggle with the two officers who were attempting to detain him. One officer sustained cuts to his arm and leg and another suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Two packages containing a number of wraps of suspected class A drugs were reportedly located at the scene of the struggle.

A 25-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested and has been charged with obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty, possession of a controlled drug of class B and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A. He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 July 2021.
