Man in 70’s arrested following sexual assault of girl on bus in Weymouth

Officers investigating an alleged sexual assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It was reported that between 12pm and 1pm on Thursday 27 April 2023 a man was travelling on the number 10 bus from Bridport Road in Dorchester to King’s Statue in Weymouth when he engaged a teenage girl in conversation and sat down next to her.

It was alleged that after they had both got off the bus in Weymouth, he subsequently grabbed the girl and kissed her in the area of Weymouth train station.

Following enquiries, a Weymouth man aged in his 70s was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He has been released on police bail as investigative work continues.

Police Constable Harry Chaplin, of Weymouth police, said: “We are conducting further enquiries into this incident, and I would like to hear from anyone with information that might assist our investigation.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been travelling on the number 10 bus around the relevant time and witnessed the reported interaction between the man and teenage girl.”
