Officers investigating a report of a fail-to-stop road traffic collision in East Dorset are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At around 1.15am on Monday 3 July 2023 an 18-year-old man was walking along Abbott Street in Pamphill when he was struck by a car, believed to be a dark grey BMW, as it drove past him.

The victim was knocked into undergrowth at the side of the road and required hospital treatment for a laceration to his head and possible dislocated shoulder.

The car’s wing mirror came off as a result of the collision and damage was also caused to the windscreen.

It was reported that the car stopped at the scene initially, but the driver then left without giving his details.

Sergeant Matt Weldon, of East Dorset police, said: “We are conducting enquiries into this incident and I am keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our investigation.

“I would urge any motorists who were in the vicinity to please check any dashcam footage for anything of relevance.

“Finally, I would like to hear from anyone who has been made aware of a dark-coloured BMW or similar vehicle that has sustained damage to its wing mirror and windscreen in unexplained circumstances since the early hours of Monday 3 July 2023.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230103045. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
