Man seriously assaulted in Weymouth town centre

Officers investigating a reported assault in Weymouth town centre are issuing an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred outside Boots in St Mary Street between 2.15am and 2.45am today, Friday 1 March 2019.

It was reported that a man aged in his 40s was attacked by two younger men, described as white and aged in their late teens or early 20s.

The suspects were reported to have left the scene in the direction of the King’s Statue.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to serious head and facial injuries.

An 18-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Police Constable John Poe, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed an altercation in St Mary’s Street in the early hours of this morning to contact us.”
