Man sought following sexual assault in Weymouth

Officers investigating a reported sexual assault in Weymouth have made an arrest

It was reported that at around 4.20pm on Monday 10 October 2022 a 17-year-old girl was walking in Crescent Street when she was approached by a man. The man attempted to engage her in conversation before he reportedly hugged her and kissed the top of her head. He is then alleged to have made a further attempt to kiss her.

Following enquiries by officers and an image appeal, a 31-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

Officers investigating a sexual assault in Weymouth are issuing an image of a man they would like to identify.

The incident occurred at around 4.20pm on Monday 10 October 2022. The 17-year-old female victim was walking in Crescent Street when a man attempted to engage her in conversation before hugging her and kissing the top of her head. He then made a further attempt to kiss her.

Members of the public approached as they noticed the victim was upset and the man walked off along Musgrave Place in the direction of The Esplanade.

Sergeant Sam Goom, of Weymouth police, said: “This was understandably a distressing incident for the young victim and a full investigation has been launched to identify the man involved.

“I am issuing an image of a man we would like to identify and would urge anyone who recognises him to please contact us as soon as possible.”
