Officers investigating a sexual assault in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Dorset Police received a report at around 12.25am on Tuesday 3 August 2021 that the 17-year-old victim was sitting near to the base of the zipline on Bournemouth Pier when she was approached by a man who grabbed her over her clothing and attempted to kiss her. During the incident he kissed her on the back of her hand and her forehead.
The victim’s mother, who was nearby, challenged the offender and he made off from the scene with two other men he was with.
The offender is described as being of mixed race with an Indian accent, aged in his mid 20s, taller than five feet seven inches tall and of slim build with short dark hair and stubble. He was wearing a black jumper, possibly with a gold logo on the sleeves, and black trousers.
Police Constable Tom Ringer, of Bournemouth police, said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim and we are doing all we can to support her.
“We are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify the man involved and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened, or who has any information that might assist our investigation, to please come forward.”
Neighbourhood Inspector Darren Harris, of Bournemouth police, said: “We are continuing to work collaboratively with BCP Council and other partner agencies to ensure we have an increased visible presence along the seafront and these efforts will continue throughout the rest of the summer.
“Police officers, police community support offices, Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) officers and council staff can be approached by members of the public with any concerns. RNLI lifeguards and staff can also be approached, with their beach towers serving as a safe place to address concerns or seek further help.”
