Meteor behind sonic boom over Dorset

Following much conjecture which included one theory that aliens had landed, the mystery of the sonic boom that could be heard over much of Dorset on Saturday looks like it has been solved.

It transpires that the sound came from a ‘fireball meteor’.

It was heard in Dorchester and Weymouth amongst many other parts of the county.

However, it was not just Dorset. Reports across the south west from Devon to Jersey to the Bristol Channel and Gloucestershire also reported strange goings on.

Next time it may be aliens but a scientific answer is much more likely.
