Metropole Market Invites YOU to Join in the Mardi Gras Procession

Metropole Market organisers have announced a Mardi Gras-themed procession as part of Sunday 24th June’s market and invite visitors to join in the march down Holdenhurst Road

Back for the second event of 2018, June’s free-to-attend Metropole Market will feature a New Orleans’s inspired Mardis Gras procession through Holdenhurst Road. Featuring bright colours, feathers, beads and show-inspired outfits, the parade will be led by the weirdly wonderful street performers, Pantheatrix and Miss Dorset 2017, Samantha Bumford. People of all ages are encouraged to jump in and dance along in the street dressed in Mardi Gras inspired outfits. The procession will be on first at 12.00 and then at 2.30 pm, to give everyone a chance to join in the fun.

After the success of the first market, which attracted 17,000 visitors to Lansdowne, Metropole Market is bringing more entertainment to Lansdowne this Sunday, to recreate the carnival-like atmosphere of Mardis Gras celebrations in New Orleans’ ‘French Quarter’.

The market will also feature fantastic Jazz entertainment delivered by Mombassa, The Gatsby Stompers, Scared of Jazz and Sara Harris Vocalist. Plus, there will also be a variety of food stalls showcasing famous Louisiana cuisine, in addition to the market’s regular foodie offering.

Lyn Turnbull, Co-organiser of the Metropole Market and Co-Owner of Mexigo Burrito Bar, said:

“At our second 2018 market, we want everyone to experience a taste of New Orleans’ fascinating culture, through the Mardi Gras parade, Jazz music and the Louisiana inspired food stalls. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to Holdenhurst Road this Sunday for a day of fun in our very own ‘French Quarter’!”
