A local choir born out of festive goodwill and, by one organiser’s own admission, perhaps “a fair volume of IPA” is now calling for new members to join its growing ranks.
Mistaken Identity Choir first came together in the summer of 2025 when Rob Taylor floated the idea of forming a group to perform Christmas carols in support of Prostate Cancer UK. What began as a one-off seasonal fundraiser quickly struck a chord with everyone involved.
“One minute it was a casual suggestion over a drink, the next we had a choir,” Ian Pollock commented. “I was very keen to help, though that may well have been down to the amount of IPA I had consumed at the time.”
Following the success of that first performance, the singers decided there was no reason to stop there. Since then, the choir has become a familiar and warmly welcomed presence across the local area, performing in pubs and community venues while raising money for important causes.
Among their recent appearances were performances in local pubs and at Dorchester Rugby Club during the Six Nations, where they helped raise funds for the MND Association. The choir also took to the stage on St. Patrick’s Day at Tom Browns, once again lending their voices in support of MNDA fundraising efforts.
Now, the group’s diary is filling up fast. Mistaken Identity Choir is set to perform before kick-off at Dorchester Town F.C.’s final home game of the season on 25 April, followed by a post-match performance at Dorchester Rugby Club.
Further appearances are already lined up, including a performance in Martinstown, Dorset, on 10 May for the Hardye Half Marathon and another at the Dorchester Rugby Club youth presentation on 16 May.
With momentum building and more events on the horizon, the choir is now looking for more people to join and be part of its unique blend of music, community spirit and fundraising.
Anyone interested in joining Mistaken Identity Choir and helping support local charitable causes is warmly encouraged to get involved.
