This is a statement from the non-profit cooperative Ethical Renewal on the moral implications of the crisis in Israel and Palestine.
Morality
The morality of the treatment of Palestinians by Israel and the recent breakout from Gaza is clear.
All lives are equal.
We all deserve protection, nurture, fairness, freedom and equality.
What moral people do not do
Killing civilians and innocents is immoral.
Any civilians.
Any innocents.
On any side.
This is something moral people do not do.
This is something that any person who claims to be moral condemns.
Ceasefire
The killing of innocents for revenge, retaliation, deterrence, or punishment is immoral.
The killings by Hamas were immoral.
The current killings in Gaza by Israel are immoral.
Anything other than an immediate ceasefire to halt the killing of innocents is immoral.
Detainment
Hostage-taking and illegal or unjust detention is immoral.
The immediate release of all illegal or unjust detainees in both Palestine and Israel is a moral imperative (approximately 220 in Gaza and many thousands in Israel).
Imprisonment
Mass imprisonment is immoral.
Gaza is the largest prison the world has ever known.
Morally, Israel must dismantle its restrictions on the freedom of movement and the movement of resources or supplies that have turned Gaza into a prison.
Apartheid
Apartheid is immoral.
Morally, Israel must dismantle the apparatus of apartheid and ensure the equality, equal treatment and equal freedoms of all Palestinians and Israelis.
From the river to the sea, Israelis and Palestinians must be free.
Ethnic Cleansing
Ethnic cleansing is immoral.
Morally, Israel must disestablish all its illegal settlements and make reparations to Palestinians who have been dispossessed.
Trust
Morality is the only guarantor of trust and peaceful coexistence.
Violence, coercion, revenge and subjugation are immoral, self-renewing, and sow the seeds of further violence and terror.

A moral nation acts to protect and nurture all those who live within it.
Moral nations act to protect and nurture all those who live beyond their borders.
