Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man died following an alleged assault in Weymouth.

At 4.13pm on Saturday 4 April 2020 Dorset Police was called to a report of a possible assault at an address on Dorchester Road.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and found a 32-year-old man with a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following enquiries two men from Weymouth, aged 40 and 47, were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. 

Sadly, the man died in hospital on the morning of Sunday 5 April 2020. His next of kin has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

The two Weymouth men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently assisting detectives with their enquiries.

A full investigation is now underway led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT). 

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour, of the MCIT, said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have any information to assist my investigation.”

A cordon has been put in place while officers carry out an examination of the scene.
