Activists celebrate as Murdoch cancels “Fox News Style” TV Channels in Britain

Earlier this year, thousands of #StopFundingHate supporters took action to urge their phone company, bank or supermarket not to advertise with two new “Fox News style” TV channels in Britain.

This week it was announced that one of these channels had been dropped, with Rupert Murdoch’s News UK concluding the plan was not “commercially viable”.

Rivals GB News are reportedly pressing on with their plans for an “anti woke” TV channel, but have been seeking to distance themselves from suggestions that this will be a “British Fox News”.

The Fox News business model relies on brands being willing to advertise alongside toxic and divisive media content.

Yet in recent years, more and more advertisers have been recognising the risks of associating with this kind of media.

The companies we shop with care what their customers think – and #StopFundingHate supporters have helped to show that when enough of us speak out, advertisers will listen.

Nonetheless, although many will be heartened by this week’s announcement from News UK, we know there are still widespread concerns about the likely direction of GB News.

So we’ll be continuing with plans to identify GB News advertisers once the channel launches, and we’ve had a brilliant response to our recent call for volunteers. Please do join our Facebook group if you’d like to help feed in to the campaign.
