The vast majority of UK citizens (this particular example is ‘Red Wall’ voters, but it replicates in general based on other polls) are “Impractical Dreamers”, “Communist Marxists”, “Student Politics Idealists” “Extremists”, “Hard Left” etc! That is what Westminster and UK media would have you believe. But, as every poll ever for the last few decades shows, the Socialist/Social Democratic policies of Mark Drakeford’s Welsh Labour and the 2017 and 2019 UK Labour General Election manifestos show…these policies are MASSIVELY MAJORITY POPULAR with People of all political persuasions and none. It’s just Westminster and the media have managed to convince a lot of voters that this is “Unaffordable” etc. This despite RIGHT WING countries in Europe and all over the world implementing these policies. Indeed, Germany and The Netherlands make lots of money running OUR services!! Indeed, spending every penny pledged in the 2019 manifesto would STILL only see the UK as average in Europe for public spending…THAT is how much investment is needed just to tread water! We can’t afford NOT to do these things…plus they will then become state assets.
Apparently it’s unaffordable and bad economics to run our our key services, but if other countries and companies run them for us, then that is absolutely sensible?! The sooner we all realise Noam Chomsky was spot on about the political zeitgeist being moved that far to the right in mainstream society, that even basic, common sense things are portrayed as utter madness and unaffordable…all while subsidising multi-billion pound industries with public money, bailing out the banks still, and having unlimited funds for war etc. But if we spend OUR money on US….well that is just plain daft! By all means subsides the richest people on earth with OUR money…but to actually spend OUR money on the People…well, you are a dangerous extremist for even suggesting such a thing!
Here in Wales we have already kept most of the private industry out of our NHS, we have nationalisation or not-for-profit Railways, water, working towards a Nationalised energy company and a Nationalised Care Service…and more…we are very proud of Mark, his team and Welsh Labour for this. We just hope that People stop believing the outright lies forced down them by Westminster and our media, and let us, Please!, have a bit of common sense. The English track and trace failed spectacularly initially and cost £37 billion. In Wales it was far more successful, a heck of a lot cheaper and Nationalised.
We are proud Wales leads the way here in the UK for popular, practical, progressive policies and government. We prove it is possible. Solidarity and keep fighting for what we know works!
