“Nationalism is the Pathetic Vanity of a Tick Bragging About the Dog it Infests”

There is a quote I want to share from Diogenes (413/403 – c. 324/321 BC):

“Beating your chest in blind pride for the dirt you happen to be born on makes you a parasite. Nationalism is the pathetic vanity of a tick bragging about the dog it infests”.

I know some of you will struggle with the concept of this when you are zip-tying your cheap polyester flags to lampposts or painting roundabouts, but even worse is shouting at hotels because someone dares to be different from you.

Do you know what makes them different to you? Luck. Nothing more, just luck.

It was simple luck you were born to a family here in the UK.

It was luck you weren’t sitting on a reserve of oil, minerals, or whatever the Western world decides it wants and will start a war just to get its hands on it.

It was luck you are not living in an apartheid state being killed by a genocidal regime that wants your land and is willing to carry out ethnic cleansing as the world just stands back and watches.

It was luck you weren’t born in a dictatorship where people who dare to speak up suddenly disappear.

It was luck you didn’t have to flee from your homeland, leave everything you had behind, and become a refugee because some nation happened to elect an incompetent fool who wants to distract you.

Just luck, nothing more. You don’t think it would happen to you; things like this do not happen to the British, so we can be scornful of refugees seeking sanctuary?

The retreat from Burma in 1941, when Rangoon was bombed, caused a mass exodus of hundreds of thousands, including some British refugees who endured a walk from Burma to India. Many were lost along the way but were given sanctuary when they reached India.

MERRA set up a network of camps during WWII to house some 40,000 escaping European refugees.

Egypt: El Shatt, one of the biggest.

Syria/Lebanon: Aleppo was a major hub.

Even in Palestine they had refugee camps for escaping Europeans in Gaza.

In Northern Africa there are more refugee camps in Morocco and Algeria.

So when the parasites like Yaxley-Lennon, Farage, or Lowe are bragging about the dog they infest, it’s just pure luck they and you get to live on this dog.
