I know how frustrating the current roadworks are, with SGN’s gas main replacement on Upton Road overlapping with Dorset Council’s Transforming Travel scheme on Poole Road, creating around 6 weeks of overlapping disruption across council borders.
Before Christmas I met with BCP Council and Dorset Council to raise residents’ concerns and push for mitigations. I also contacted SGN directly, who agreed to put extra resource on over the Christmas period.
I asked Dorset Council to consider delaying their works start date if they increased their working hours using artificial lighting, but I was told this was not possible.
Both councils have confirmed that if there is emergency roadworks in Hamworthy or a problem at Poole Bridge, Dorset Council will pause their works.
I have now requested a meeting with the CEO of SGN to address the wider infrastructure issues and push for longer-term solutions with continuous emergency works.
