An exciting update to the Kingcombe Education Centre’s programme of residential and day courses has been announced, including new art courses for all ages and abilities.

In addition to the current line-up of courses, the Kingcombe Centre is pleased to be working with local artists to add an extensive list of wildlife painting courses, including ‘Painting autumnal fruits, berries and seedheads’ with Sarah Morrish RBGE Cert BIand ‘Painting summer flowers and fruits’ with Jenny Major DipSBA.

Sarah has always had a fascination and passion for illustrating the natural world, and has worked in the field of conservation with a degree in Ecology and Conservation biology. Water colour is the predominant medium she uses, but her detailed work is also depicted using other mediums such as graphite pencil, gouache and acrylic inks.

Jenny is a retired geography teacher and civil servant who has invested much time and effort into incorporating love of botany into Botanical illustration. This has involved attending a range of tutorials, demonstrations and workshops as well as completing the SBA Diploma in Botanical Illustration. Learning new techniques is essential for developing your skills but water colour is the primary medium used. Jenny is part of a team delivering tuition in a Botanical Illustration Course to students in her home area as well as taking the opportunity to exhibit when possible.

Tutor, Christina Hart-Davies, will be running the three day residential course, ‘Painting summer plants in watercolour’ from Friday 20th– Sunday 22nd June 2014. Christina said: “From observing the form and texture of summer plants to reproducing their luscious hue in watercolours and capturing them accurately petal for petal, experienced painters will have a chance to learn new skills while brushing up on existing techniques. I will be on hand throughout the weekend to give group demonstrations as well as one-to-one sessions.”

DWT’s West Dorset Living Landscapes Manager, Debbie Watkins said: “These new courses are perfect for Kingcombe –the tranquil and inspiring setting of wild flower meadows couldn’t be better for people to learn in. All courses include accommodation in one of our en-suite wildlife-themed rooms and also include all meals and morning and afternoon tea, so students can focus entirely on enjoying the course and developing their skills.”
