Next Stop: Wilderness Connection

In an effort to help improve nature connectivity, the brand new Bushcraft Bus brings bushcraft to your back door!

Shocked by the news that the UK ranked lowest in a European study for nature connectivity the Bushcraft Bus was founded, offering nature-focused bushcraft skills sessions for schools, campsites, birthday events and festivals across Dorset. A fully mobile solution to increasing access and engagement with nature whilst reducing costs, the bus can be set up anywhere there is enough space!

Outdoor instructors Jim and Tom developed the concept after they had noticed that a lot of school pupils were not able to attend their field trips, for a number of reasons that included behavioural and financial, missing out on important skills and further widening the gap between society and nature.

Jim says “Bushcraft and learning how to maximise my enjoyment of nature through physically engaging with wilderness, even eating it, has been a life changing revelation for my physical and mental health. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m hoping I can spark that same joy in as many people as possible.”

Adventure has always been a part of both of their lives, and their blossoming friendship continues to drive each other’s skills and knowledge. Tom shares “Jim loves quizzes. From getting me to guess which foraged greens he has hidden in tonight’s stir fry, to testing my mushroom ID skills. Although he still can’t compete with my spoon whittling…”

Tom added “we want to help break the barriers people face when connecting to nature, helping to develop a sustainable and caring society.”

It’s also a really fun way of adding some excitement to an event and creating truly unique memories. Taking a more modern approach to teaching the ancient skills and igniting our dormant connection to nature, the experienced team at the Bushcraft Bus deliver the following key offerings:

Schools // Originally designed to improve accessibility to nature for those who need it most, inspiring the next generation and reaching a wider scope of pupils is where our hearts lie. From the science of fire lighting and foraging, to shelters and wild arts and crafts, we are always thrilled to work with new pupils!

Festivals & Campsites // Family friendly, the Bushcraft Bus is able to deliver exciting engaging sessions for children as well as more advanced sessions for adults, including knife skills workshops, wild food and cooks.

Events // Fully customised company team building days, including sustainably sourced local deer and rabbit butchery for the meat eaters, or fully vegan wild foraging banquets. The team are also able to deliver birthday parties, transforming gardens into bushcraft base camps!

The Bushcraft Bus operates and teaches a leave no trace policy, leaving the site as if they were never there.
