Kathryn Tickell and the Darkening
Tuesday 1 October, 7.30pm, Theatre
Named after the old Northumbrian word for twilight, The Darkening comprises four North-East England-based members led by Kathryn Tickell. Their inspiration comes from the wild, dramatic, weather-bitten countryside along Hadrian’s Wall that almost 2000 years ago, was inhabited by people from around the world, worshipping different gods and following different customs. 

Lunchtime Recital: Diana Cooper (piano)
Wednesday 2 October, 1.05pm, Sherling Studio

Diana has recently recorded her first CD, featuring works by Haydn, Chopin and Ravel, after winning first prize in the Concours d’aide aux Jeunes Artistes organised by the Festival du Vexin.

Kathakali UK Tour 2024
Thursday 10 October, 8pm, Sherling Studio

The renowned Kala Chethena Kathakali Company, from Kerala, South India, is bringing the ancient art of Kathakali back to the UK. A short pre-show demonstration illustrates how a Kathakali actor tells a story through emotions, facial expressions, characters, and gestures. A short film will take the audience back in time when Kathakali first emerged 600 years ago and highlight to story that’s about to be seen. Age guidance: 7+

Ben Portsmouth: This Is Elvis
Friday 11 October, 7.30pm, Concert Hall

Ben Portsmouth brings his jaw-dropping tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Celebrating the life of an iconic showman, you’ll be taken on a trip down memory lane with many of Elvis’ most loved songs from all eras including the 1950s, the iconic ’68 Comeback Special, and Ben’s personal favourite, the 1970s Vegas concerts. The Duke

Nightcap: An Evening with Captain Lee

After 10 seasons starring in Bravo’s biggest show, Below Deck, Captain Lee Rosbach sailed his way into viewer’s hearts, yet the ‘stud of the sea’ never even saw the ocean until he moved to Turks & Caicos at the age of 35. The Saginaw Michigan native has spent the last three decades circling the globe as a mega yacht captain known for his witty one-liners and no-nonsense attitude.

Afro Celt Soundsystem

Afro Celt Sound System are among the pioneers of contemporary world music. Their ground-breaking fusion of African, Gaelic and Bhangra influenced sounds has won the hearts and minds of audiences since the group’s beginnings over 25 years ago. In March 2023, the group’s Dorset-based founder Simon Emmerson sadly passed away after prolonged illness, but was steadfast in his belief that the band should continue. This month they are honoured to announce their new album, OVA, in Simon’s memory.
