Having found a video we will watch later, I decided to investigate the history of animosity Labour MP Wes Streeting has with Jeremy Corbyn, and here is a summary.

  1. Apparent Ideological Differences:
  • Political Stance: Streeting is considered a centrist within the Labour Party, associated with the more establishment sympathising wing of the party, often linked to the legacy of Tony Blair. In contrast, Corbyn is a socialist, representing the a faction that advocates for more radical economic and social policies to help a blighted UK.
  • Policy Disagreements: Streeting has often criticised Corbyn’s policies, particularly those seen as too left-wing or unrealistic, such as extensive nationalisation and a more aggressive approach to wealth redistribution.

2. Apparent Issues with Leadership and Party Management:

  • Criticism of Leadership: Streeting has been openly critical of Corbyn’s leadership style, which he and other pro establishment MPs perceived as ‘ineffective’ and ‘divisive’. He has frequently pointed out what he considers Corbyn’s failures to unite the party and appeal to a broader electorate that has been brainwashed by the corporate establishment media.
  • Handling of Antisemitism: One of the most significant points of contention has been Corbyn’s handling of antisemitism allegations within the Labour Party. Streeting has been a vocal critic, arguing that Corbyn did not do enough to tackle antisemitism, which he believed contributed to a toxic environment within the party and alienated Jewish members and voters. Interestingly, Streeting was silent when the higher levels of antisemitism were prevalent under the leadership Ed Miliband.

Public and Parliamentary Clashes:

  • Public Statements: Streeting has made several public statements condemning Corbyn’s leadership and decisions. These statements often highlight Streeting’s frustration with the direction in which Corbyn was taking the party.
  • Parliamentary Actions: In Parliament, Streeting has not shied away from voting against the party line when it was in opposition to Corbyn’s policies. This defiance has sometimes placed him at odds with Corbyn’s loyalists.

Election Results and Party Performance:

  • 2019 General Election: The Labour Party’s defeat in the 2019 general election under Corbyn’s leadership intensified the criticism from MPs like Streeting. They argued that Corbyn’s leadership was a significant factor in the loss, as his unpopularity with the general electorate overshadowed the party’s policy platform. He failed, however, to mention that his role in undermining Corbyn also played a part in the defeat.
  • Future Leadership: After Corbyn stepped down, Streeting was among those who advocated for a change in direction for the Labour Party, supporting candidates who were more pro establishment and who promised to address the issues that had ‘plagued’ Corbyn’s tenure.

Personal and Group Dynamics:

  • Labour Friends of Israel: Streeting is a member of Labour Friends of Israel, a group that is often at odds with Corbyn’s perceived stance on issues related to Israel and Palestine. This association further strained his relationship with Corbyn and his allies.
  • Internal Party Dynamics: Streeting, part of a group of Labour MPs who were highly critical of Corbyn, often found himself at the center of internal party disputes. These dynamics added a personal dimension to their animosity, as each faction viewed the other with suspicion and hostility.

A personal dimension is exemplified here:

Therefore, imagine my surprise when the two faced rodent was videoed doing this:

Wes Streeting and the Labour Party are currently just an establishment vehicle that will do and say anything to get power.
