Are you aged over 55 and have care needs but would like to remain living independently? Or maybe you know a friend or relative in this situation?

If you answered ‘yes’ then please come along to an Extra Care Open Day to find out more about Bournemouth Borough Council’s Extra Care sheltered housing schemes:

·     Brushett House, Draper Rd, Kinson – Saturday 2 August, 10am–2pm

·     Hibberd Court, Hibberd Way, Ensbury Park – Saturday 9 August, 10am-2pm

·     Craigleith House, Derby Rd, Boscombe – Saturday 16 August, 10am-2pm

·     Kingsleigh House, Coronation Ave, Moordown – Saturday 23 August, 10am-2pm

Extra Care sheltered housing is designed for those who are physically or mentally frail or have a long-term condition which will require more care in time and who do not have the finances for a private care home. They allow people to have their own home, with access to 24 hour care and support that they need to live independently.  There are one and two bedroom apartments available to rent with communal facilities for socialising such as a lounge, dining room, activity room and garden.

Councillor Blair Crawford, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “Our goal is to keep older people living independently with any care and support they need coming directly to them. Our Extra Care housing schemes are ideal for those that have health problems and are maybe feeling lonely or cut off from other people. If you think the Extra Care housing scheme may be right for you or a member of your family I would strongly encourage you to drop in to one of our Open Days to meet the staff and have a look around.”

Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Housing, added: “With a growing number of people living longer in the South, it is becoming increasingly important to offer homes that meet the needs and expectations of an older population. Our Extra Care housing offers residents a fantastic range of facilities and services in well-designed accommodation.”
