Par-ley for the course

Work has begun to turn Parley Golf Centre into the region’s finest practice facility.

Diggers have moved onto the site opposite Bournemouth Airport and the new greens are being created.

The course will remain open and unaffected by the developments that will double the footprint of the centre.

It is planned that the new practice facilities and re-configured course will be open for April 2016.

The £250,000 investment will lead to an extended driving range and floodlit chipping and putting greens.

The nine-hole course is being rebuilt with carefully configured tees allowing for a round of 18 with a total distance of 5,111 yards.

Indoors will be further putting facilities as well as other innovations to accompany the popular café/bar.

There will be a private room with three driving bays that will include seating and will be available for private hire and business meetings.

Soil for the new parts of the course is being sourced from other areas of the Parley Court Estate.

Daryl Dampney, manager of the centre, said: “It is a big project but already the new greens are being put in and it’s possible to see how it’s going to look.

“None of the work affects the course and play will continue as usual. Most of the work is on adjacent farmland.

“We have many people from other clubs who practice and have lessons here because of the excellence of the driving range and the quality of our teaching professionals and we want to encourage more.

“Ultimately we want to be the go-to practice facility in the region and we were inspired after seeing similar golf centres in the US.

“We are a pay-and-play centre and welcome people of any standard or age to come and have a go.”

The new course has been designed by Evolve Golf Course Design.

Parley Golf Centre is also looking for a sponsor to share in the success that the growth and investment will bring.
