Pavilion Dance South West and Yellow Buses offering young people a chance to train in hip hop dance

“Get On Board!” is a fundraising appeal of Bournemouth-based dance organisation Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) in partnership with Yellow Buses. It is set to increase awareness for the organisation’s work for and with children and young people.

Dance encourages collaboration, teamwork, trust and empathy like nothing else. We believe passionately that dance is vital for young people as part of the wider curriculum, which is why it is a creative priority for our organisation,” says Deryck Newland, Artistic Director at Pavilion Dance South West.

“Get On Board!” will run alongside Bournemouth’s annual hip hop festival,
B-Town Throwdown. It offers five young people chosen from local schools the opportunity to train with Shake, one of the best hip hop crews in the area, create a piece of dance and perform it live in front of an audience on Sunday 10 May, between 1pm and 2pm.

It’s a free world where I can express myself. It makes me happy whilst giving enjoyment to others. Other reasons I enjoy dance are that it gives me more confidence and makes me more creative and makes me realise I can achieve goals in life,” explains Jack, one of the five Get On Board Dancers.

PDSW is currently actively looking for local businesses to sponsor each young person in support of the organisation’s work with children and young people across the town and the region.

Yellow Buses have come on board to support the appeal and create opportunities for businesses to engage with dance in their local community.

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellow Buses’ Head of Marketing, says: “As a company we have supported the arts in a variety of ways and we’re pleased to be able to help promote this dance initiative. We also work closely with schools and ‘Get on Board’ brilliantly combines the two.”

For more information on the appeal contact PDSW at 01202 203637, email [email protected] or visit www.pdsw.org.uk/getonboard.
