The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park put out a call to all local artists to produce a piece of art to address what is possibly the most pressing issue of our time.

This year’s Peacock OPEN has the title “PLANET ART”. The exhibition is being held at The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park, Poole and will run from 28th November to 21st December 2015.

The project is open to any creative artist, living within 15 miles of Poole and work is welcome in any medium: painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, film or the written word.

A spokesman for the organisers explained:  “This is a big subject and we are hoping for a big response.  Artists see our world in different ways and on different scales, from the majesty of landscape to the delicacy of an insect’s wing.  Climate Change is a particular issue we’d like to focus on.  With the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris at the same time as the OPEN, it seems an obvious connection.”

The selection panel comprises Dr Martin Price (environmental campaigner); Lucy Best (MA Fine Art); Tony Scrivener (painter) and James Manlow (Bournemouth’s Poet Laureate). Prize money will be awarded.

The exhibition is organised by Gallery managers, Poole and East Dorset Art Society.  For more information visit www.thegalleryupstairs.org.uk The Gallery Upstairs, Upton Country Park BH17 7BJ.
