Police Appeal After Woman Driver Spat at in North Dorset

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage following a reported road-related incident in Shaftesbury.

The incident is alleged to have happened between 7pm and 7.20pm on Friday 18 September 2026, when a woman in her 20s was driving along Shaftesbury High Street.

The woman was reportedly at the give-way junction with Mustons Lane when a black Audi approached and allegedly failed to give way.

According to the police report, both vehicles were stationary in the road for a short time before the Audi mounted the pavement in an attempt to get around the woman’s vehicle.

As the Audi passed, the male driver reportedly challenged the woman before spitting through her open car window. The spit allegedly struck the woman.

Police are now carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured it on camera.

Police Constable Nathan Young, of North Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and I would urge any witnesses to please make contact with us.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcam who were driving in the area around the relevant time, as well as residents or businesses with CCTV cameras, to please check their footage for anything that might assist our investigation.”

Even footage that does not appear to show the incident itself could potentially assist officers in establishing the movements of the vehicles or identifying the Audi involved.

Police are therefore asking drivers who travelled through Shaftesbury High Street and the Mustons Lane junction during the relevant 20-minute period to check their dashcam recordings.

Residents and businesses with CCTV covering the road, pavement or nearby junctions are also being asked to review recordings from the time of the incident and contact police if they have captured anything potentially relevant.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260148198.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed the confrontation, saw a black Audi in the area, or has dashcam or CCTV footage that could help officers with their investigation.
