Criminals are predominantly targeting commercial vehicles which are parked up in Poole and Bournemouth at any time of the day and night.
Over 30 vans have been broken into over a two-month period.
Power tools have been reported as being among the stolen items. Some of the tools are valued at over £1,000 and belong to local business people.
If you have seen any suspicious behaviour or you know of anyone selling stolen goods, particularly power tools, please call Dorset Police immediately on 101.
Detective Sergeant Mark Shields, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard vehicles being broken into in the last few weeks to contact the police or Crimestoppers.
“We need the public to be our eyes and ears on the ground and let us know if they hear about people handling or selling stolen tools, so we can catch those responsible and prevent local people’s businesses suffering because of thieves.”
