Detectives continuing to investigate a report of a serious assault at an address in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 11.09am on Sunday 11 February 2024 from the ambulance service of a man requiring medical treatment at an address in Lennox Street.

It was reported that the victim – a local man aged in his 60s – had been assaulted and sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Following enquiries, a man aged in his 40s from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Dave Horn, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and, from our enquiries so far, we believe it occurred within an address and involved individuals who are known to each other. There is nothing to indicate any wider risk to the public.

“To assist our ongoing enquiries, I would appeal to anyone who witnessed or heard any suspicious activity in the area of Lennox Street between around 12am to 1.30am on Sunday 11 February 2024 to please contact us.

“A police cordon has been set up at the scene and is likely to be in place for several days as we continue to investigate this matter. There will be an increased police presence in the area and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
