Following the vile and disgusting behaviour of Reform UK Ltd campaigners now being widely daubed ‘the party of hate’

police are “urgently assessing” racist and homophobic comments made by Reform UK activists, prompting Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to express his hurt and anger over a personal insult.

The Essex Police stated they are investigating the comments to determine if any criminal offenses have been committed. This follows a statement from Sunak, who revealed his distress over the bigoted insult directed at him by a supporter of Nigel Farage’s party. As a father of two daughters, he emphasised the importance of confronting “corrosive and divisive behaviour.”

Reform campaigners were recorded by an undercover Channel 4 reporter making racist remarks, including derogatory comments about the Tory leader, who is of Indian descent.

A spokesperson for Essex Police confirmed their awareness of the comments aired during a Channel 4 News program and their ongoing urgent assessment to identify potential criminal offenses.

Sunak, speaking at a school in Teesside during an election campaign visit, said: “My two daughters have to see and hear Reform people who campaign for Nigel Farage calling me an effing ‘P***.’ It hurts and it makes me angry, and I think he has some questions to answer. I don’t repeat those words lightly. I do so deliberately because this is too important not to call out clearly for what it is.”

He continued: “As Prime Minister, but more importantly, as a father of two young girls, it’s my duty to call out this corrosive and divisive behaviour. I hate having to do it. I chose my words deliberately; I hate having to repeat them, absolutely hate it. But I also think it’s important to call this out for what it is and be clear about what it is.”

The footage from Clacton, where Farage is a candidate, showed Reform campaigner Andrew Parker making discriminatory remarks about Sunak and suggesting migrants should be used as “target practice.” Parker also described Islam as a “disgusting cult.” Another canvasser described the Pride flag as “degenerate” and implied members of the LGBT community were paedophiles.

Facing backlash over his comments that the West “provoked” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Farage sought to distance himself from the inflammatory statements, expressing dismay at the “appalling sentiments” voiced by his supporters.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer condemned the “clearly racist” footage, stating that the Reform UK leader faced a “test of leadership.”

Farage, appearing on ITV’s Loose Women, suggested the incriminating film was a “total set-up,” attributing Parker’s remarks to his part-time acting career. He asserted, “It was an act right from the very start. I have no doubt that this whole thing was a complete and total set-up.”

However, Parker contradicted Farage and stated that his volunteer work for Reform was separate from his acting job and claimed he had been “goaded” into making the comments. “There’s lots of old people like me who are sick to death of this woke agenda… but on that particular day, I was set up, and set up good and proper. It’s proper taught me a lesson—I was a total fool.”

Parker maintained his support for Farage, calling him a “brilliant guy” and “the only person who tells the truth.”

Sunak also criticized Farage’s previous praise of Andrew Tate as an “important voice” for men. Tate, an online influencer, has faced charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. Sunak stated, “Andrew Tate isn’t an important voice for men. He’s a vile misogynist. And our politics and country are better than that.”

The candidates in Clacton include:

  • Matthew Bensilum, Liberal Democrat
  • Craig Jamieson, Climate Party
  • Tony Mack, Independent
  • Natasha Oben, Green Party
  • Tasos Papanastasiou, Heritage Party
  • Andrew Pemberton, UK Independence Party
  • Giles Watling, Conservative
