Poole man arrested following suspected transphobic assault

Officers investigating a reported assault in Poole are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It was reported that at around 11pm on Saturday 4 May 2024 a man shouted transphobic abuse at the victim before pushing them and throwing a lit cigarette at them in Bournemouth Road.

Fortunately, the victim did not sustain injuries.

Following enquiries, a 40-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Police Constable Madeleine Baldwin, of Bournemouth police, said: “We are following all available lines of enquiry and would ask anyone who attended the restaurant that night and saw what happened who hasn’t already spoken to police to please come forward.”
