An investigation by detectives has led to a violent offender receiving a custodial sentence for a brutal attack.
The defendant was responsible for assaulting a man during an incident at shared accommodation on Westover Road in Bournemouth.
On Saturday, 18 November 2023, at 6.12pm, Dorset Police received a call from the ambulance service reporting that a man had been located with serious injuries at the address.
The victim was taken to hospital where it was established that he had sustained significant injuries, including a brain injury, fractured ankle, broken nose, damaged ribs, and a collapsed lung.
An investigation was launched by detectives, which quickly led to the arrest of the defendant, Ainsley Greer.
During the investigation it was established that Ainsley Greer had brutally assaulted the victim on two occasions over a 48-hour period. Detectives also discovered that one of the assaults was filmed on an iPad in which the defendant’svoice could be clearly heard within the recording.
Ainsley Johnson Robert Greer, 31 and of Poole, was found guilty of attempted murder on Thursday, 20 March 2025, at Bournemouth Crown Court. He was sentenced at the same court on Thursday, 8 May 2025, to 18 years in prison.
Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of Dorset Police, said, “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the victim in this case. I sincerely hope that he recovers both physically and mentally in respect of the injuries he sustained during the attack.
“This was a detailed and thorough investigation carried out by detectives from the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Criminal Investigation Department, supported by other specialist departments. I would like to express my thanks to all those involved in the investigation, especially the officer in the case, Detective Constable Samantha James.
“Ainsley Greer carried out a sustained violent attack upon the victim that inflicted some serious injuries. The assaults were unprovoked and could have quite easily led to fatal consequences. As a result of his senseless actions, he has quite rightly received a lengthy custodial sentence.”
