It seems apparent that the controversial Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has a huge chip on her shoulder about black people. The most recent outburst about taking the knee and Black Lives Matter is just the latest manifestation. Pre-occupation with refugees and migrants, many of whom are black, deportations etc underlie her Home Office regime.
This prejudice would seem to stem from her family being ejected by Idi Amin, from their comfortable life style in Uganda in Africa, when they were part of the then dominant South Asian economic group within that country. Priti Patel, well known for bullying, has apparently neither forgotten nor forgiven this.
This negative attitude is in direct contrast to that towards Indians. The catastrophic delay in moving India to the Red List meant that at least 20,000 Indians potentially carrying the dangerous Delta variant of Covid from India were allowed into the country. We are now paying the price as Delta variant Covid cases soar, hospital admissions rise once more – by 66% in a week.
Can we afford to have in government someone with such obvious prejudice in a sensitive and strategic position as Home Secretary?
