Residents and businesses are being urged to prepare their properties for long spells of heavy rain over the next  24 hours.

The Met Office has issued a yellow severe weather warning for the South West, with rain expected to be heavy and persistent at times through Tuesday (26/1) and into Wednesday (27/1).

Properties that are known to be at risk of flooding during heavy rain are being encouraged to be protected with sandbags or equivalent protective products.

West Dorset has community stores positioned throughout the area where sandbags are available for use by residents. The locations of these stores can be found at: dorsetforyou.com/flooding/west-dorset. In addition to these locations, a temporary store can be found at Fordington Street in Dorchester.

Weymouth & Portland residents can pick up bags from the sandbag store at Weymouth’s harbour gate.

Residents in Upwey can access sandbags from a store at The St Laurence Church.

North Dorset District Council does not provide sandbags in advance of flooding but residents and businesses with properties at risk of flooding can purchase sandbags from local builder’s merchants.
