On Saturday 13th July local Climate Leader Mark Chivers presented “The Climate Reality Project” at Moordown Community Centre as part of a series of meetings organized for the community by the South East Dorset Green Party.  Despite the sunny weather, attendance was good and we were pleased to welcome seven non-members among those who came along.

The Climate Reality Project was founded and chaired by former U.S Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore.  It was set up to encourage individuals to demand urgent action on climate change from their leaders.  A powerful presentation showing the beating heart of the diminishing Arctic and graphs that seemed to disappear into the ether was shown.  Warnings of the carbon equivalent of thousands of atomic bombs being released as well as images of drought, floods and wildfires impacting many millions was followed by a lively discussion.

It is hoped that the presentation will be widely shown, helping break the dam of inaction and raising the profile of the climate crisis, still poorly understood by many,  to its proper state of urgency.
