NEW FILM AIMS TO REVEAL TRUTH ABOUT CORBYN DOWNFALL

A documentary which claims to tell the truth about Jeremy Corbyn’s time as leader of the Labour Party  leadership is to get its first UK screening in London on Thursday 9 February — the start, it’s producers hope, of a grassroots initiative to break a “mainstream blockade” on the subject.

The film “Oh Jeremy Corbyn — The Big Lie” tells the extraordinary story of the rise and fall of the former Labour leader and is the work of Platform Films, which has been making films about the labour movement for over 50 years.

Norman Thomas of Platform Films said: “Jeremy’s leadership of the Labour Party was wildly distorted by the mainstream media at the time and it still remains a taboo subject. The aim of this film is to at last break the mainstream media blockade and get the truth out there.”

The 80-minute documentary was launched in January at the International Rosa Luxemburg Conference in Berlin attended by over 4,000 people in person and over 20,000 more online. On the next day the film received its world premiere at Berlin’s historic Babylon Cinema in front of a sell-out audience.

Mr Thomas, the film’s producer said: “The film had a tremendous reception. People were shocked and appalled by the story of political treachery and deceit the film had to tell.”

The film, which will be screened in front of a sellout audience in London’s Conway Hall, explores how in 2017 Jeremy Corbyn came so close to becoming prime minister and investigates the forces which brought him down.

Mr Thomas said: “Our London screening is the next step in making people aware of the full enormity of what the establishment did to Jeremy Corbyn. But there’s still so much to do to try to break the mainstream blackout on what happened.”

Mr Thomas says they are taking a “grassroot” approach to making sure the film gets maximum exposure.

He said: “What we’re aiming to do is to help local groups to organise their own screenings all over the country so they can spread the word far and wide. Screenings like these trigger political debate and, I believe, will help inspire a revival of the kind of grassroots activism which once helped Jeremy become leader.”

Narrated by Alexei Sayle, the film includes interviews with people who were at the middle of the storm around Corbyn, including film-maker Ken Loach, Jeremy Corbyn’s former political adviser Andrew Murray and ex-Labour MP Chris Williamson.

  1. I could’ve told you this during Corbyn’s reign as leader. I was chair of our local CLP and remember saying to my colleagues that either the Labour Party was grossly inept or there are forces working withn the party to ensure Corbyn does not become PM.
