Purbeck is going wild about gardening this spring with Dorset Wildlife Trust. You can find out all about wildlife friendly gardening at The Purbeck Wildlife Gardening Weekend on 13th and 14th April at garden centres around the Isle of Purbeck plus a host of gardening activities for adults and children at Holme for Gardens near Wareham and Galton Garden Centre in Owermoigne.

The Purbeck Wildlife Gardening Weekend is part of the Wild Purbeck Nature Improvement Area initiative funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with seven garden centres across Purbeck joining in with wildlife gardening information and wildlife friendly plants for sale. Holme for Gardens and Galton Garden Centre will have activities all weekend, including a Wildlife Gardening demonstration and, for children, the chance to make a bug hotel or plant wild flowers plus competitions, posters, quizzes and activities to take home. On Sunday 14th April there is also a Wildlife Gardening Workshop (please book) at Galton Garden Centre.

Briony Baxter, Community Conservation Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “We are really looking forward to meeting lots of Purbeck gardeners who are interested in encouraging more wildlife into their gardens. I hope you’ll come and see us with all your gardening questions and take away lots of ideas and tips for your own garden. We want to show people that everybody can be a wildlife friendly gardener and that your garden doesn’t have to look wild or messy to welcome wildlife!”
