How many budding junior writers are there in Swanage? Well, at least 50, who have clamoured to enter the Lions Club of Swanage Primary School Literary Competition, as part of the Purbeck Literary Festival 2015.
What have they had to do? Write a 500 word article based broadly on the Purbeck landscape, ranging from ghostly sightings to the joy of living in such a fabulous place.
These will be judged by a panel of Swanage Lions and local children’s author, Eric Johns.
Why are they doing it? Apart from the sheer pleasure of sharing their skills the winner gets, not only a book token but also a signed book and two workshops for their school, by the renowned children’s author, Geraldine McCaughrean. An amazing treat. Geraldine has won multi awards including the Carnegie Medal, Blue Peter Award, Whitbread prize etc. Her seqjamesuel to JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, Peter Pan in Scarlet has been published in more than 50 countries and is soon to be both a play and a film.
Look out for these worthy winners, who will be announced on 6th February 2015.
