READY- STEADY- GO IT’S THE BIG DORSET OUTDOOR WEEKEND

Increasing more visitors to Weymouth out of season is major part of the BID’s Business Plan. Weymouth is the perfect destination for outdoor sports and activities, offering enthusiasts a large and diverse range of opportunities in and around the area.

Weymouth BID will be hosting a new event called the “BIG DORSET OUTDOOR WEEKEND” on 20th and 21st May 2017, the event will bring together over 25 outdoor activity and adventure events in south Dorset with a particular focus on Weymouth & Portland. Activities will include cycling, running, walking and a vast selection of water based activities. The Big Dorset Outdoor Weekend will be managed by Creative Solutions (MPE) Ltd on behalf of the Weymouth BID.  On Monday 15th May the organisers, host venues and supporters met at the Official Test Centre to mark the launch of the event.

Nigel Reed, Manager of Weymouth BID, said “This area is a great place for adventure sports and with the market expanding; this is the right time to promote the area. It is important that we take advantage of the growing tourism market in health and well-being and continue to promote the wide range of activities available to residents and visitors all year round.  I would like to thank all of the host venues for their support of the Big Dorset Outdoor Weekend and I hope they have a very busy weekend.”

Organiser Roy Griffiths said  It is hoped that ‘The BIG Dorset Outdoor Weekend’ will inspire both local residents and visitors of all ages to either take part for the first time or enjoy their chosen activity in the fantastic outdoor playground we know as Weymouth & Portland. Many of the local activity providers are more than happy to provide taster sessions throughout the year to give visitors the chance to have a go before committing to any particular activity, all equipment and specialist clothing is usually provided and expert advice is always on hand from a whole host of professional providers or activity club members.   The timing of the ‘BIG Dorset Outdoor Weekend’ has been deliberately set at the beginning of the season to enable people to continue with your chosen activity or activities throughout the rest of the year. This can be seen nowadays from the many sporting events that take place in the borough right through the year including watersports, walking, cycling, and running events.  I would urge people to sign up as soon as possible as some of the classes are almost fully booked.”
