In my letter to number 10 for 3 October 2015, I state that “Authoritarian and patronising attitudes and expression should be made illegal on a par with racial, religious, sexual and disability discrimination”.
The policies of the Tory are toxic not least because of their attitude towards ordinary people as vassals of the state. Iain Duncan Smith revealed that internally the DWP refer to people on benefits as ‘stock’, which is both insulting and dehumanising. His wretched sanctions regime and indeed the entirety of his execrable Universal Credit reveals his authoritarian and uncaring attitude for the lives and well being of ordinary people and it is that attitude, shared by so many of the Tory party, which is deeply toxic and, in my opinion, should be vigorously challenged and, indeed, called out for being profoundly discriminatory and therefore illegal.
Back in May 2015 David Cameron made an extraordinary statement, saying, “For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens ‘as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone’.” In other words, no one would be safe from state intervention in ways that are outside of the law, subject to the arbitrary will of parliament. That is the harbinger of despotic totalitarianism and couldn’t be clearer; the growing fascist state.
Lord David Freud is another one who likes to lord it over ordinary people, the poor in particular, this was one of his little nuggets, “people who are poorer should be prepared to take the biggest risks” as they have “the least to lose”. The depth of prejudice revealed in that statement is incredible, he also happens to be a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and had a big part to play in the DWP’s despicable welfare reforms.
These descendents of Britain’s imperial past are treating Britain with the same attitude they treated the colonies, conducting an economic war on the poor and it’s time that was raised as a legal issue which is exactly what I will do in the Labour party including a letter to Jeremy Corbyn. It is time we moved on from these throw backs to colonialism and their incredibly bad attitudes towards the, so called, ‘lower orders’ and got that on a legal footing.
