After covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins, The King of Edinburgh (6 Music) is in a frivolous mood with this show at Bridport Electric Palace on 11 June about daftness, whether the term ‘cool comedian’ is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa and how Herring’s whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at sixteen.

Tickets for the evening cost £15 + 75p booking fee fromElectric Palace Box Officeor Bridport Tourist Information centre on 01308 428354 or online via Seetickets.com

This writer and comedian’searly work includes the comedy double act Lee and Herring, with Stewart Lee, who performed in front of a sell-out audience at the Electric Palace last month. The British Theatre Guide describes Herring as “one of the leading hidden masters of modern British comedy”.

He is celebrated for concept-led, one-person ,live stand-up shows like Talking Cock, Hitler Moustache and Christ on a Bike. Since 2004, Herring has created a new show every year: developing them at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, touring them extensively throughout the year, and recording the final performance for DVD. His latest show, Lord of the Dance Settee is his eleventh consecutive stand-up show in eleven years.

“Can he revisit the joke thirty years on or will it smash his old bones? Dependably funny.” Chortle.co.uk.

“A new Richard Herring show is a never-ending cause for delight.” List

Gareth Richards, who is supporting Herring, was a star turn at one of the Electric Palace’s monthly comedy network nights. His hilarious stand-up, silly jokes and gorgeously low-key comedy songs have made him an instant favourite on the comedy circuit. In 2010 he was nominated for Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer.

Gareth has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, Live at the Electric (BBC3) and in January performed live on Radio 1. Gareth co-hosted Frank Skinner’s Sony award-winning Absolute Radio show for two years and is currently supporting Frank on his 2014 tour
