RIP Aaron Bushnell: A true hero that history will immortalise

In 1963, this happened:

It reveals incredible footage of a Buddhist monk who burned himself to death outside the Roman Catholic cathedral in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) on Sunday, October 27th, in protest against the policies of the Ngo Dinh Diem regime. This was the seventh such suicide in south Vietnam since early June, coinciding with the visit to Saigon of the United Nations mission investigating charges of government persecution of Buddhists. The monk, 42-year-old Ho Dinh Van, poured petrol over his robes and set them alight with a match. Many passersby watched his flaming death, including Buddhists, who kneeled on the pavement in prayer. The monk chose the street in front of Saigon’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, where Roman Catholic President Diem worships, as his place to die.

Move forward 61 years, to February 25, 2024, outside of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the same imperialist brutality is being symbolised by the absolute heroism of people challenging the war hungry psychopaths ruling over us.

As with the video above, this is not for young eyes. Aaron can be seen walking to his position, explaining his reasons, and then self immolating.

Both are hard watches because decency can be hard.

Aaron Bushnell, like Ho Dinh Van, will be remembered because he was filmed for the world to see. Many others take their lives and are never heard of outside of their communities. All are amazingly brave to make the ultimate sacrifice in the face of the greed and narcissism that permeate many of those who have or seek power.

The USA is sicker than most because it openly celebrates greed and corruption. Many of their citizens despise it but are trapped in it. All the while, the flag flutters on the front lawn.

Who was Aaron Bushnell?

Aaron’s final moments:

Aaron was an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force who had had enough of being part of a multi trillion dollar hate machine. The only difference between him and many of us is that he is a lot braver.

RIP Aaron. You will be immortalised and celebrated by the decent, and you deserve to be so.
