Before we listen to Rob and Jeremy, let us remind ourselves how the “scumbags and venture capitalists” are hurting our health and social care services and more specifically, us:
- Outsourcing Services: The government has outsourced some non-clinical services, like cleaning, catering, and maintenance, to private companies through contracts. This is aimed, they argue, at improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Private Finance Initiative (PFI): PFI schemes involve private companies funding and building NHS infrastructure, like hospitals, which are then leased back to the NHS over a long period of time. Critics argue that this method leads to high costs and long-term financial burdens on the NHS. Thus destroying cost effectiveness.
- Clinical Outsourcing: Some clinical services, such as elective surgeries or diagnostics, have been outsourced to private hospitals or providers. This is often done to reduce waiting times and meet targets. The outcome is that those who pay get a quicker (although arguably not a better) service.
- Integrated Care Systems (ICS): The government has introduced reforms aiming for better integration between health and social care services. While this isn’t strictly privatisation, there are concerns about private sector involvement in these systems and potential impacts on service delivery.
Here, Rob and Jeremy discuss Rob’s experiences when his son had brain cancer and how, if he had been back in the USA, besides hoovering up the money, it would have meant less time with his son.
Don’t let these scumbags prevail.
