Roofing works at Weymouth Crematorium set to start

Roofing works at Weymouth Crematorium are set to begin this month (March 2015).

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council has contracted O’Brien Roofing & Leadwork Ltd to carry out extensive re-roofing works at the crematorium which is located at Quibo Lane in Weymouth.

Work is expected to start on Tuesday 17 March and progress until Friday 29 May.

A schedule is in place to enable full use of the crematorium from Tuesday to Friday each week and no works will be carried out while services take place.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s briefholder for Community Facilities, Ian Bruce said:

“Care has been taken to reduce the impact of the works on the operation of the crematorium and to reduce disruption to neighbouring residents as much as possible.

“We hope to keep the crematorium and associated facilities open and operating as close to normal as possible but, for this to happen, roofing works will have to take place during evenings and weekends.

“The ‘out of hours’ work will unfortunately have some impact upon neighbours and the borough council would like to apologise for this disruption in advance.”

Work is to be carried out between 6.30am to 10.30am and 4pm onwards from Tuesday to Friday and there will be no restrictions on working times during Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays or Bank Holidays.

To avoid potential noise nuisance to neighbours, power tools will be used with consideration to neighbouring residents and such work strictly curtailed between 9pm and 7am daily.

The period of late March to May has been selected to provide the best compromise regarding the typical pattern of need for cremations, suitable weather conditions, available daylight hours and avoiding the summer months when neighbours might be worst affected by any noisy work.

Any queries or observations from the public about the roofing works should be directed to Property Services at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council on 01305 838000.
