Rugby player seriously assaulted during match in Sherborne

Officers investigating an assault at a rugby match in Sherborne are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It is reported that at around 3.30pm on Saturday 4 March 2023 a male rugby player was assaulted during the first half of a match between Sherborne RFC and Wellington RFC at the Terrace Playing Fields.

The victim attended hospital for treatment where it was found that he had sustained fractures to his eye socket and cheek bone.

Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said: “I understand this incident may have been witnessed by a number of people at the match and would ask them to please come forward.

“We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and would ask anyone with information to help our investigation or mobile phone footage of the incident to please get in touch.”
