Dorset Wildlife Trust has become an affiliated charity with the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, and is inviting runners of all abilities to help us raise money for wildlife in Dorset.
We have places for a range of running events taking place in Bournemouth on the 5th and 6th October 2013 – so there’s still time to start training! These events cater for any running ability or age to run distances of 5k, 10k, half-marathon, or the ultimate endurance challenge of the full marathon. There are also junior events, offering a chance to run 1.5k or 3k for age 14 and under, so why not get your family involved too?
A group of Dorset Wildlife trust staff, including several running novices are taking on the challenge to raise money for DWT. Marketing Consultant, Jane Adams, said: “My running style has been compared to an overweight badger in a hurry. It may not be stylish or fast, but I’m determined to finish my first ever 10k run. Just surviving is a challenge for our wildlife, so if I can help them in even just a small way by running in aid of Dorset Wildlife Trust, it will be worth every kilometre.”
Fundraising at events such as the Bournemouth Marathon is integral to the DWT’s mission to conserve and protect Dorset’s wildlife for the future. Alastair Cook, Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Director of Fundraising & Marketing said: “Events like these are not only fun to take part in, but help us raise essential funds as traditional methods of fundraising are being reduced or withdrawn in the current financial climate. We need help from the public so we can continue protecting and conserving nature and wildlife in Dorset for now and years to come.”
Dorset Wildlife Trust is raising money for its conservation work throughout the county, across all 42 of its reserves and hopes that participants will not only be able to help us raise money, but enjoy the tremendous achievement of completing the race.
You will also get a t-shirt, accurate chip timing, a training plan based on your fitness level, a race recovery pack, and of course, a medal!
