I hope you saw Natural World on BBC2 on Hawaii and the dreadful plastic pollution in this remote part of the Pacific Ocean. Not sure where it all comes from (presumably Pacific Rim nations) but please do what you can to limit release of plastics into the environment to help our bit of ‘ocean’.

I remember visiting Hawaii in 2004 and being shocked by the plastic pollution on isolated beaches. It looks like it is a lot worse now. This follows on from report in the news this week about plastic pollution on one of the Pitcairn Islands. We are killing the oceans, the albatross pictures were most distressing and the turtles and the seals ………

I attach a picture taken at Greensand Beach in 2004 to illustrate the point. It is called Greensand Beach because the sand is made of olivine derived from the weathering of the basalt rocks.
