Detectives have launched an investigation into reports of a serious assault in Dorchester – with two people arrested.

Dorset Police received a report relating to a fight that occurred outside the One Stop store in Kings Road at around 2am on Wednesday 20 October 2021 involving two groups of people who were believed to be known to each other.

It was reported that a woman aged in her 20s was repeatedly kicked and punched during the incident. She sustained serious injuries including a fractured cheekbone and fractured finger, as well as cuts and bruises.

The assault was reported to police after the event, however, response officers instigated a swift investigation, safeguarding the victim and identifying witnesses and suspects, and two people were arrested in connection with the incident. A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from the local area, were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and are assisting detectives from Weymouth CID with their enquiries.

Superintendent Stewart Dipple, head of investigations for the local policing area, said: “While reports of serious violence in the street are rare for this area, we recognise the impact it can have and distress it causes to the victim, their families and friends, and residents who witness it and live or work in that community.

“Officers will respond quickly to reports of this nature and we will continue to relentlessly pursue those involved in suspected criminal offences and reports of anti-social behaviour.

“Detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries into this matter and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone who may have relevant dashcam, mobile phone or home CCTV footage, to please come forward.”
