Sherborne man in critical condition following collision

Officers investigating a serious injury road traffic collision near Sherborne are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 7.27am on Tuesday 8 June 2021 of a collision on an unclassified road near to Keepers Cottage, in the area of Gainsborough Hill south of Sherborne. The collision involved a silver Toyota and a blue Subaru.

The driver of the Toyota – a man aged in his 50s from the Sherborne area – sustained serious injuries and was taken to Yeovil District Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Subaru – a women aged in her 50s from the Bradford Abbas area – sustained minor injuries.

The road was closed while emergency services responded to the incident and an examination of the scene was carried out. It was reopened shortly before 10am. 

Police Constable Jay Griffin, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man who was seriously injured and his family at this time. We are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision.

“I would urge any witnesses or anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam to please contact us.”
