On Friday, four Democrat Congresswomen visited a Detention Centre for adult women and disclosed the shocking conditions that they were being held in – conditions which included lack of sanitation, food and water and being told to drink water from the toilet! This followed so many independent reports of children being held in appalling conditions. At least 7 children have died in detention in the last 2 years. NO children died in custody in the previous 10 years! Shockingly, supporters of ‘The Racist Rapist’ President heckled the Congresswomen as they told the world about the conditions!
At the weekend, Trump unleashed his disgusting, racist attack on these four Congresswomen – elected Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib – all women of colour.
Trump’s tweet said: “So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
Ilhan Omar came to the US from Somalia when she was 6 and became a US Citizen when she was 17. The other three Congresswomen were born in the US!
For the first time in 107 years, the House of Representatives formally condemned the President’s words. Appallingly, all but 4 Republicans voted against the censure! The last President to be condemned in this way was William Taft in 1912!
Despite this censure and widespread condemnation for his racism, Trump has doubled down, describing these elected members of Congress as ‘Communists’ who ‘hate America’ and accusing them of ‘Anti-Semitism’ (sounds familiar!)
Then tonight, at a Trump rally in North Carolina, Trump launched another despicable attack on the four women and singling out Rep. Ilhan Omar. And the crowd, like Pavlovian dogs, chanted:
“SEND HER BACK! SEND HER BACK!”
The Trump rally reminded me of this……
