Sir Hilary Beckles, chairman of the Caribbean Community Reparations Committee, has called for Conservative MP Richard Drax to “hand over…the Drax plantation” as reparation for the part his ancestors played in the Caribbean slave trade.
Sir Hilary makes a watertight argument that the estate should be part of the National Trust and open to the public to enable funds to go back in to the public purse not in to his own private funds.
He is still benefitting from the killing and mass exploitation of slaves. This is not just about the past but about the present and the future.
